Low Testosterone May Make Sugar Harder on the Liver

In early research in mice, scientists found that low testosterone combined with a high-fructose diet worsens fatty liver disease. Surprisingly, the damage seems linked to changes in gut bacteria, pointing to a possible new target for preventing liver harm.

Fatty liver disease affects millions of people and is often driven by diet. If the gut bacteria connection holds up in human studies, it could lead to new ways to protect the liver — maybe through probiotics or other microbiome treatments — especially for men with low testosterone who drink a lot of sugary drinks.

✦ Low testosterone and high sugar may team up to strain your liver.
