AI organ scans now run fast on ordinary hospital computers

Researchers built TS-Portable, a self-contained version of the TotalSegmentator tool that runs on a standard computer processor instead of a graphics card. In a test on 100 CT scans from multiple centers, it matched the original's accuracy across 15 abdominal organs while working several times faster.

Hospitals without expensive graphics hardware often can't run AI organ-measuring tools at all. This version needs no special card and no software installation, so a doctor can measure organ volumes — like the spleen — in seconds on a regular reading station. That puts advanced imaging analysis within reach of smaller clinics.

✦ Medical AI that once needed special hardware can now run on the computers hospitals already have.
