New method fixes bias in gene-drug studies

Researchers introduced a new statistical tool called GEMRA. It adjusts for medication use in large genetic studies. This helps prevent drugs from distorting the data. The method aims to find the true genetic link to a health trait without interference from daily medications.

Medications can mask the genetic factors behind conditions like high cholesterol or blood pressure. Current methods often remove medicated participants or add simple corrections, which can lose data or skew results. GEMRA allows scientists to keep these participants in the analysis. This leads to more accurate genetic findings across different populations.

✦ Adjusting for medication keeps genetic research honest and inclusive.
